Restoring Dignity Through Presence: SFA's Visit to Jude Kiwanuka
9 February 2026 | Kyebando Nsooba, Mulago Parish, Kampala District. Space For All Foundation visited Jude Kiwanuka in Kyebando Nsooba to understand his needs, provide temporary nutritional support, and connect his family to partners for continued care.
A Visit Rooted in Compassion and Dignity
Space For All Foundation conducted a field visit to Kyebando Nsooba, Mulago Parish, to assess the living conditions and support needs of Mr. Jude Kiwanuka, a young man living with albinism. The visit was initiated after one of our members observed Jude spending time along the Mulago road, often appearing isolated. Moved by concern and compassion, she sought to understand his situation more deeply and later received additional information from a concerned community member about Jude's welfare and vulnerability. This engagement reflected the Foundation's commitment to compassion, dignity, inclusion, and practical service.
Listening First, Then Responding
Upon arrival in the community, our team member did not initially find Jude at his residence. Community members explained that he was at a roadside location where he commonly spends part of his day. While proceeding toward his home, the team encountered Jude and engaged him in conversation. Jude appeared shy and reserved, but he responded politely to greetings and questions about his well-being. His elder brother and caretaker, Mr. John, encouraged him to share any concerns he wished to communicate. During the engagement, Mr. John explained that Jude had a health concern requiring medical attention.
Immediate Support and Family Engagement
Our team spent approximately one and a half hours with Mr. John, learning more about Jude's background, daily life, interests, challenges, support systems, and aspirations. In response to the immediate needs identified during the visit, Space For All Foundation provided petty cash to support Jude's nutritional needs while longer-term support options were being explored. The family expressed gratitude for the visit and support, and remained open to continued communication with the Foundation.
Follow-up Support and Partnership Building
On 9 February 2026, Space For All Foundation returned for a follow-up visit with a team of five members. During this visit, the Foundation delivered three boxes of milk as temporary nutritional support for Jude and his household. Recognizing that sustainable support requires collaboration, the Foundation also initiated engagement with partner organizations to explore pathways for medical attention and continued care.
Referral Coordination
Space For All Foundation reached out to the Single Parents Association Uganda and Advantage Africa for guidance and possible referral support. After reviewing the information and photographs shared, Advantage Africa informed the Foundation that they had previously supported Jude approximately two years earlier through the Single Parents Association Uganda. Advantage Africa then connected Space For All Foundation to SPAU for continued coordination regarding Jude's case. Through this coordination, the Foundation has also maintained communication with Mr. John, Jude's brother and primary caretaker, who continues to provide updates on Jude's condition and circumstances.
Beyond Relief: Toward Inclusion and Long-Term Well-being
Jude's story demonstrates why presence matters. Sometimes meaningful support begins with noticing, listening, visiting, and choosing not to look away. For Space For All Foundation, this activity was not limited to a one-time act of assistance. It was part of a broader commitment to identify vulnerable individuals, understand their real circumstances, respond with dignity, and connect families to relevant support systems.
Our Commitment
The Foundation remains engaged in monitoring Jude's situation through his family and partner organizations. Current efforts are focused on strengthening access to medical support, promoting social inclusion, and identifying opportunities that may contribute to Jude's long-term well-being, independence, and economic participation. Space For All Foundation remains committed to serving vulnerable and marginalized individuals through compassion, accountability, and sustainable partnerships.
